Razer Blade 15 vs Alienware M15

Design

Razer Blade 15:

This is the new 15-inch Razer Blade and it is one of the best-looking laptops I’ve seen this year. The design has changed quite a bit, I always thought that the 14 inch Blade looked a lot like a MacBook, this new 15 inch Blade looks a little bit more unique, the corner radius is a little bit smaller slightly boxier shape, and I think it looks really good. There are some noticeable improvements in build quality as well. So the chassis just feels more rigid, It’s a tighter build and I think it’s one of the best-looking products from Razer. So the logo is still right in the middle It’s sunken in a little bit more and it still lights up.

The build quality of the blade is fantastic with the aluminum chassis, super-thin bezels, and matte black appearance giving it a premium look that works both at LAN parties and at business meetings.

Alienware M15:

This is Alienware’s new 15 inches thin and light gaming laptop. Really good build quality, it’s not super thin but it is significantly thinner than the there previous generation. There’s no flex from the chassis. The hing is really well built. The top panel has the same kind of finishes with the light-up Alienware head logo. The inside has this soft-touch material which reminds me of this stuff you see on a higher-end Lenovo laptop. The bottom panel also metal. This is the type of stuff you see on really well-built laptops.

Display

Razer Blade 15:

The Samsung manufactured display is a treat. 600 nits peak brightness, 100% DCI p3 coverage, HDR 400 certification, and calibration from the factory. I mean even just opening the settings menu which is in dark mode by default is super satisfying with perfect blacks means an incredible contrast ratio that just makes all the text and icons jump out at you. Overall this satisfying display that we have ever seen on a laptop.

The screen is fantastic. It’s bright It’s fast, great color gamut. There is a 4k panel available, but 144 Hertz screen It’s where it’s at. If you plan on playing games on this machine high refresh beats higher resolution any day of the week unless you’re really hardcore about the video or photo editing. This is one of the best 144-hertz panels on the market right now. I’d consider it a step above the competition now keep in mind.

The one thing that you won’t be getting out of this display is more frames per second. Unfortunately due to its 4k resolution, this OLED panel won’t do anything over 60 Hertz and it doesn’t even have G sync. This means that for gamers I simply can’t recommend the OLED display model of the blade, especially when there’s an option to equip this computer with a 240 Hertz 1080p IPS panel which will not only give you a considerable competitive advantage but it’ll just make everything feel way smoother.

Alienware M15:

The screen on the M15 has smaller bezels this time. The side bezels are definitely thinner. Top and bottom bezel are still a bit thick but the material that they use around the bezel on this thing is this glossy plastic. The webcam is up top and the image looks pretty clean.

This panel is a 4k panel, it’s color accurate and bright. There is a 144 Hertz panel available if you want that. The 4k panel is great for creative work but if you’re gaming I’d go for that higher refresh.

Weight and Dimensions

Razer Blade 15:

The weight of the laptop is 2.1kg. After including the charger, the total weight increases to under 3kg.

The dimensions of the laptop are 35.5cm in width, 23.5cm in-depth, and under 1.8cm in height.

Alienware M15:

The weight is listed as starting at 2.16KG on Dell’s website, and I found mine to weigh 2.3KG. When the charger is included the weight raises to 3.1kg.

The dimensions of the M15 are 36.3cm in width, 27.5cm in-depth, and 2.1cm in height.

I/O

Razer Blade 15:

  • Left – There are the power input, two USB 3.1 Type-A ports, and 3.5mm audio combo jack.
  • Right – There’s a Type-C Thunderbolt 3 port, third USB 3.1 Type-A port, HDMI 2.0b, and mini DisplayPort 1.4 outputs, followed by Kensington lock.
  • Back – There are downwards facing air exhaust vents that you can’t really see, while the front is all smooth metal with a single status LED towards the right.
  • Underneath – There are only small vents for airflow directly above the fans.

Alienware M15:

  • Left – There’s a Noble lock port, air exhaust vent, gigabit ethernet port, USB 3.1 Type-A port, 3.5mm audio combo jack, and the left speaker.
  • Right – There’s the right speaker, two more USB 3.1 Type-A ports and air exhaust vent.
  • Back – There are HDMI 2.0 and mini DisplayPort 1.3 outputs, Type-C Thunderbolt 3 port, Alienware Graphics Amplifier port, and the power input.
  • Underneath – It is pretty clean looking, and the rubber feet did an ok job of preventing movement while the air vents are found towards the back.

Keyboard and Touchpad

Razer Blade 15:

The issue on the keyboard is shift key on the right side and the arrow keys are positioned in a very untraditional way. There’s an arrow key right between them and it’s actually quite difficult to get used to it. Overall, I don’t love the keyboard.

The trackpad using Windows Precision Drivers. Great surface texture and accurate tracking. The buttons are underneath the trackpad this year instead of the dedicated hardware buttons they’ve had in the past but I think most people will enjoy this trackpad. There’s one like a mild issue the trackpad is quite large and the palm rejection software isn’t perfect yet I think that is something that they can tweak over time but right now when you’re typing, occasionally your palm will kind of move that tracker around but it’s a really minor problem.

Alienware M15:

It has a chiclet keyboard, I’ve you see so much that I’m very comfortable on them for typing and gaming. There’s a number pad on the side for people who want them. The keystrokes on this keyboard aren’t as deep as a previous generation, the travel is a little bit shorter but it is a very comfortable keyboard.

The trackpad is a bit different this year. The previous generation had a light-up surface, those are gone this is more of a traditional kind of generic-looking trackpad. It is a nice one, it’s a glass surface, kind of good tracking precision drivers which is great but the keyboard and the track but feel a little more generic to me not that they’re bad they’re actually quite good it’s just visually they don’t look as iconic as the previous Alienware input devices. The lighting on this keyboard is also in zones still not individually lit.

Performance

Razer Blade 15:

The performance is great. It’s running the i7-8750H. It’s a six-core CPU. Excellent for multi-core applications. There are two GPU options. There’s a 1070 Max-Q and a 1060 Max-Q that 1070 gives maybe 25-30 percent better performance than 1060. It’s not insignificant, but it’s also a little bit thicker. The performance in games for either of these cards is gonna be great and depending on what you play or what you want to do with your laptop, you’ll have to make that decision for yourself.

Alienware M15:

The gaming performance on this device is excellent, there’s nothing new 6-core i7, GTX 1070 max-q – a great device for playing basically any game at 1080p. But It’s not that good in comparison to razer blade 15, though both have same specs.

Which One You Should Buy?

I will personally prefer the Razer blade 15 because it has more powerful specs and longer battery life. The Blade 15 kept the Alienware m15 at bay. Razer Blade is sleeker than Alienware, and most people love the sleek one.

However, this doesn’t mean that Alienware M15 is not a good laptop. It offers solid performance with decent battery life and a better keyboard.

If you see overall then Blade 15 is the winner here.
