DESIGN

Dell Inspiron 15 7591 2-in-1

This laptop is so sleek that you can choose it over the MacBook Air supported aesthetics alone. It starts with the fashionable exterior on this black edition model which features a stealthy elegance. A Chrome Dell logo is centered on the lid providing contrast against a jet-black void. The inky design continues onto the within of the laptop where gray keys blend into a black deck. All of those dark, cold surfaces start to feel industrial but small touches just like the rounded rear edge and trim around the touchpad give the Inspiron some much-needed warmth.

It’s a convertible design and it has a three-piece aluminum chassis. It’s a relatively thin and light machine and in a lot of ways, it’s just not what I expected from an Inspiron series. It’s got a 360-degree hinge which makes this convertible as a tablet.

HP Envy 15 X360

Comparing it to the Dell XPS 15, the build quality is slightly more robust on the XPS 15. The hinge on the HP Envy X360 has a quite nice clean look to it. There is an air vent on both sides and on the side, there is a switch to disable the webcam. The panel is nice and sturdy.

The keyboard is all made of aluminium not quite the same sturdy build as on the XPS 15 but still pretty nice. The backlighting has two levels of brightness. The trackpad is a large size and we’ve integrated mouse buttons. There’s a slight surface texture to it and it does respond pretty well. The keyboard themselves is fairly rigid and it is island-style keys and quite easy to see in the light. I do like that it’s got a fingerprint sensor which is pretty good and you got a speaker grille up at the top.

DISPLAY

Dell Inspiron 15 7591 2-in-1

This has a 4k display standard, there is no version that comes with a lower resolution screen. So, it does have some premium features. Fine details look crisp and viewing angles are wide, as you’d expect from a screen with 4k resolution and IPS technology but the display otherwise earns a bit low than the great display. While brightness is adequate, neither contrast nor color pops, and therefore the touch overlay is glossy and reflective.

HP Envy 15 X360

It’s got a 15.6 1080p edge to edge glass display. It has an edge-to-edge display or if you want a 4k which is also available here. The panel does show PWM flicker and that’s a zero percent brightness but by increase it even 75 percent to 100 percent, you may have that eyestrain. So, if you are susceptible to eyestrain due to that flicker, bear that in mind to set the brightness at less than 75 percent.

The HP Envy X360 has 250 nits which look dark even on 100% brightness. On the display, you can easily see the PMW flicker which irritates. With the being a touchscreen the display is glossy but despite this is still fairly visible and under bright lighting. As a touchscreen, it works very well and responsive. If you want to apply too much pressure to it, it’s actually still not bad either. You can use it for even sketching.

FEATURES

Dell Inspiron 15 7591 2-in-1

It has premium features, not only is it available with Intel U processor options but it also has a 4k display standard. We’ve got a USB Type-C port here, HDMI, and a power jack, you can also charge it via USB Type-C if you would prefer to do that. This also has a USB-A port and micro SD card slot.

When you open it up, you’ll see one of the more interesting things which is that there’s a pen for using this as a tablet. The pen is magnetically stored in that slot, it uses Microsoft Pen technology so there’s a small battery in the pen and it is an interesting solution for where do you put the pen. I think it’s interesting that there’s a little garage where you can just keep it in when you’re not using it.

On the less literal silver lining, the battery-powered pen works comfortably and precisely supporting 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity and offering good palm rejection. We have seen styli garaged on the side or rear edges of laptops but never on the inside hinge. The unique pen bay worked even better than I imagined.

The magnetic stylus snaps into the holster and automatically twists therefore the buttons are always facing far away from the hinge. The magnet is so strong that the pen didn’t budge once I flipped the system the wrong way up and gave it a robust shake. Better of all, the pen is often removed even when the laptop is in a tablet or tent mode.

This has optional support for an NVIDIA MX 150 graphics and has a bigger 68 watt-hour battery. So, the idea is that you should get similar battery life whether you get the 13 or the 15 inches, they have pretty much all the same features except that the larger version has a numeric keypad.

HP Envy 15 X360

In the box, you get a small 65-watt hour power supply that’s really good, the laptop, and you get the HP pen. It’s a 2-in-1 laptop with a 10th gen CPU. Spec-wise, it’s got the i7-10510U CPU, it’s 1.8 gigahertz base to 4.9 gigahertz max boost and it’s got the Pascal-based MX330 4 gigabytes. It also got 2 x 8 gigabytes of sticks of RAM running at 2666 megahertz. It’s got one terabyte NVMe storage. It has a 51-watt hour with a fast charge and Intel 95/60 Wi-Fi card. You get 16 gigabytes of RAM.

You can get the i3 i5 and i7 variants in this U series and in all of them, the clock rates are going to be slightly higher on the Comet Lake ie., U series than the Ice Lake ie., G series. If you want to higher onboard graphics as the Iris Plus, the Ice Lake is good in that whilst the Comet Lake is often going to be paired with their perhaps like the MX250 or MX330. If you want a higher core clock on the CPU, Comet Lake is probably the way to go.

On the left-hand side, we have the power connector at the back, USB 3.1 gen1 Type-A port, the power button, combo headphone/mic jack, and an SD card reader. On the right-hand side, we have an HDMI port, and another USB 3.1 gen1 Type-A port, a USB 3.1 gen2 Type-C port not Thunderbolt and you can’t charge the laptop through it and with the USB Type-A port, you can actually charge phones with the laptop turned off that’s a nice touch.

We have a 720p webcam and I think, it looks pretty sharp. The microphone also picks up your voice pretty well and if you want privacy, you do have the button at the side to disable it.

The 40 decibels is the max fan noise that’s pretty good. It has bang Olufsen speakers which are good and impressive. The pen that comes with it is a barrel-shaped pen. You will get a pen nibs and a battery of it with a pen. For note-taking, it’s very responsive. The palm rejection is fairly decent and there is not much lag at all.

BATTERY

Dell Inspiron 15 7591 2-in-1

This version has a 51-watt hour battery. Dell says, it should last for up to nine hours using the mobile mark test but you probably gonna get substantially less battery life in real-life conditions. So, it’s gonna depend on how you use it. You can charge it via USB Type-C or a regular power adapter.

HP Envy 15 X360

The HP Envy 15 X360 has 51 Watt-hour with 3 cells battery inside it. You can expect around 9 hours of battery life on mid-range usage. In heavy use, you will get less than this assumption.

WHICH TO BUY?

If we compare the price of both the laptops, the HP Envy 15 X360 is cheap and also it offers more storage and better graphics at less price. The price difference is not that high, it will be just about $100 or $150, and the display in Envy 15 X360 looks so dark and the PMW flicker also doesn’t look good on the screen. For productivity works and editing works and you don’t need any better graphics for gaming, then Dell does offer a great package.
