DESIGN

Dell XPS 13 9310

The design hasn’t changed from Dell’s XPS 9300 model. Nothing is changed in design but other than that, there are so many differences and upgrades.

The actual keyboard looks very nice and gives a nice feel to it. It is a bit clicky but it’s got nice pressure. There’s a fingerprint sensor on the corner. The trackpad and the palm rest have carbon fiber soft-touch finish which is very nice but it does stain, so you’ve got to be careful with that.

The touchpad is very nice and responsive, you can click on it although it is a normal springboard trackpad, it’s well designed because I can even click at the top of the trackpad which is nice. This is working nicely so that again is quite impressive. It glides nicely and the gestures come up nice.

Dell XPS 13 9300

The Dell XPS 13 9300 looks gorgeous even before you open it. Cut from a single block of aluminum, it’s sleek and stylish without a doubt. There are two new color choices; frost with arctic white woven glass fiber or platinum silver with black carbon fiber interior and they both look extremely sophisticated.

The twin coil hinge makes opening the laptop with one hand a breeze. Once it’s open, you’ll find the keyboard is pushed towards the top giving you more space for the glass touchpad. We found the ultra-portable laptop easily slid into our backpack without adding much bulk or weight at only 2.8 pounds.

The XPS 9300’s keyboard and touchpad were enjoyable to use, they really added to our productivity. The keyboard is nearly edge-to-edge giving you plenty of space. We loved the snappy feedback while the soft-touch coating made typing very comfortable. The touchpad is a little larger than previous versions, so using it was a breeze. The swiping, sliding, pinching, and three-finger gestures made the experience great.

DISPLAY

Dell XPS 13 9310

This model has 13.4-inch FHD Plus and that’s the 1200p matte screen and also has the option of a 13.4-inch UHD Plus display. This is the 500 nits matte display. Both the display option has a matte and glossy screen option. I like the fact that you get better battery life with the 1200p screen and I find a 1200p on a 13 inch is quite high enough pixel density, anyway you’re not really massively noticing the pixels.

The screen is very nice, it does get nice and bright in this 500 nits display. There was a fair amount of backlight bleed all around the panel, only noticeable when you’re booting into windows with the black screen. The panel seemed nice and responsive.

Dell XPS 13 9300

We basically got a 13.3-inch screen and an 11-inch form factor with minimal bezels. There’s a stunning 4K ultra HD resolution that packs 8 million pixels, which really adds to the immersive wow factor. The colors were extremely vibrant and images were detailed in both dark and bright scenes. The IPS panel was bright enough to enjoy outdoors with no issues, even the wider viewing angles held up.

Now, if all that wasn’t enough, it’s also a touch display which found it very responsive and accurate although it was a shame to add smudge marks to this great display, the great response made switching chrome tabs and different documents extremely easy. Visually, watching movies was on another level, especially with Dolby Vision doing an impressive job of enhancing HDR content.

FEATURES

Dell XPS 13 9310

In the box, we’ve got a nice 45-watt USB-C charger, the power leads, and a USB-C to USB converter, and XPS 13 pamphlets. Just like the 9300, I think pretty much everything has stayed the same apart from the ports. So, we have a Thunderbolt 4 port now and a micro SD card, another Thunderbolt 4 port, and your headset jack, and that is it, so not a lot of ports.

There is microphones in the top and obviously, since the 9300, we do have the actual webcam up top. There is a Windows 10 Home edition with this model. This is the 11th gen i7 1165G7 processor the new Tiger Lake. It’s also got 16 gigabytes of 4267 megahertz LPDDR4X memory. You can choose the storage size from 256GB, 512GB, 1TB gigabyte M.2 PCIe. It’s also got the new Intel Iris Xe graphics with shared graphics memory. This is something I’m quite interested in because apparently, it’s quite a lot faster than the previous Iris Plus graphics.

In terms of heat, the keyboard gets warm when we install some things or updating it but that’s not uncomfortable anyway. The fan noise did kick up whilst installing all the actual updates. It was actually surprisingly quiet, I’m quite impressed. It’s certainly not a high-pitched, it’s a nice little air whoosh and when we were fully processing the updates for a few minutes, it did get a little bit louder.

The sound quality is good. There’s never a great deal of bass on these smaller machines but the highs are good. It’s very crisp and they do get loud and they’re quite clear at that loud.

Dell XPS 13 9300

The Dell XPS 9300 packs a 10th generation Ice Lake processor which are i3-1005G1, i5-1035G1, i7-1065G7 available options. This processor works fast and responsive but a lot of people say this is not that much noticeable than the 9th gen processors. It also got the combination of Intel Iris Plus graphics which performs quite well in gaming. The storage space and memory are good enough for people’s needs.

The stereo speakers struggled at higher volumes. When there were several audio layers, the sound quality got a little muddy but when it came to music, the small speakers did a decent job of punching out a fair bit of bass.

The only downside to the XPS 13’s compact size is the port selection is a little lean. You’ll have to need a few dongles around if you have a lot of accessories. You get two Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, a micro SD reader, and a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack.

BATTERY

Dell XPS 13 9310

The XPS 9310 gives a really nice battery life like it may give around for a full day long. For the 13 inch laptop, this long battery life is quite surprising. There is a 52-watt hour 4 cell lithium battery inside it. It gives around 9 hours of usage in light use and the charging time will be around 2 hours.

Dell XPS 13 9300

This has the same battery which is in the latest XPS 13 9310 laptops. So, it gives the same level of battery life but it depends on your model that you use 4K and high brightness, then you get less battery life. The battery performance could be a little better, especially with the power taking 4K display. Try to use that laptop at less brightness which will give a better battery life.

WHICH TO BUY?

Overall, I think the XPS 13 9310 is a nice and solid package. It has the latest upgrades which combination works really well. In XPS300, the lack of ports makes it less than ideal but overall the XPS 9300 not only looks incredible, it performs equally well with impressive internal specs. You’re getting a stunning 4K touch display and premium features you could expect, everything from Dell mobile connect to voice-activated Microsoft Cortana. All around, this is definitely one of the best laptops available.

In my opinion, the price range of laptops is almost the same. So, it will be better to buy the latest one if you are the person who is searching for the best laptop for all the office works, video editing, and some gaming, then the XPS 9310 will be the best Dell laptop in 13 inches.
