With the release of iPhone 14, Apple replaced the Sim Card Slot with the eSIM in US variants only. eSIM is directly connected to device motherboard, so you can't eject or swap it.

eSIM allows for more flexibility. Users can add two phone numbers and eight data plans to iPhone 14 without visiting any carrier stores or managing dual SIM slots.

Upgrading to a new device is more seamless since a physical SIM card doesn’t need to be switched over.

eSIM is also more secure. If a device is lost or stolen, no one will be able to remove the SIM card and intercept text messages and phone calls.

eSIM also benefits Apple and carriers as well. Removing the SIM card slot frees up valuable space inside iPhone. Carriers save money by no longer providing the physical cards.
