Estimated read time 4 min read

If you make videos or play games, you may have thought about upgrading your microphone, but you may have a limited budget. Don’t worry! Today, I am going to review the HyperX SoloCast Microphone, which was launched in 2020 for $60, but now you can easily get it around $40.

Should you buy this mic in 2023? Before I begin, I want you to know that this microphone is sponsored by Vlogsfan.com.

What’s in the Box?

First, let’s see what’s inside the box. Overall packaging of this microphone is very simple and basic. Following are the items you will get in the box:

HyperX Solocast Unboxing
  • HyperX SoloCast Microphone
  • Stand for Microphone
  • USB Type-C Cable

Design & Build is Pretty Solid

HyperX Solocast Design

The design of the HyperX SoloCast microphone is quite basic, without any RGB lights or flashy features. There is only one LED light on the front that indicates whether the mic is muted or unmuted. I will talk about this feature later in this article.

HyperX Solocast Backside

On the back of the microphone, you’ll see a USB Type-C port, which is used to connect the mic to your PC.

HyperX Solocast Screw Threads

At the bottom, you will see and screw threads to mount this on a microphone stand. You can buy stands for this microphone from amazon.

HyperX Solocast Weight

SoloCast also feels bit heavy to hold because it’s made of metal, and the grille on the front is also quite strong. I am really, impressed with the build quality at this price range.

The overall look and feel of the HyperX SoloCast microphone is very minimal. Even if you don’t have a fancy gaming setup, this microphone will give a professional look on your setup.

I love this Adjustable Stand

HyperX SoloCast Stand

I really liked the build quality and durability of the stand, especially considering its price range. It can rotate the microphone in 45-degree increments to stand at an angle or completely horizontal on either side.

HyperX Solocast Under Desktop

It is so portable that you can set it up anywhere, whether it’s under your desktop or in a small space. It’s compact size makes it easy to fit in tight spaces.

HyperX Solocast Tilt

If you feel that your microphone is positioned downwards, you can tilt it upwards.

Setting it up is Breeze

HyperX Solocast Plug and Play

Using this microphone is very simple. You don’t need to download any software to use it. Just connect the microphone to your PC via the Type-C cable provided in the box, and you’re good to go.

“Tap to Mute” is an Amazing Feature

HyperX Solocast Tap to Mute

If you are gaming and suddenly you don’t want to give voice to your teammates, or if you are streaming and want to mute your microphone for a short while, then You can easily mute and unmute the mic with a single touch on the capacitive button located on the top of the microphone.

How Does the HyperX SoloCast Sound?

HyperX Solocast is a condenser mic, and it capable of recording 16-bit audio at a sample rate of 48kHz.

If you are 1.5 feet away from the mic, you will still get clear audio. This mic is very sensitive, so there may be an echo problem, depending on the environment. Following are some audio samples:

HyperX SoloCast sample (4 inches or 0.3 Feet away):

HyperX SoloCast sample (8 inches or 0.6 Feet away):

HyperX SoloCast sample (18 inches or 1.5 Feet away):

This Microphone has a Cardiod Polar Pattern

Cardiod Polar Pattern means that your microphone will accept the sound from the front direction only and reject all the sounds from its back and sides.

If you are a streamer and you want the microphone to only pick up your voice and neglect the surrounding noise, then this feature is very useful. I have tested this feature, listen the below audio:

How Cardiod Polar Pattern Works (Audio Sample):

Should you buy HyperX SoloCast in 2023?

Overall, this is a very good microphone, and its build quality is excellent. Design-wise, it looks quite nice, and its stand is functional too. But most importantly is sound quality which is clear and natural.

There is no headphone jack for monitoring, but it’s not a big deal as I don’t think many gamers would use this feature. You can also use this mic professionally by purchasing a stand and pop filter. It’s pretty cool to have something in this price range that works and performs so well.

So yeah! you can buy this microphone in 2023.
