Design & Ports

ASUS Zephyrus G14 vs G15 Design

Both have a very similar design aesthetic, though the G14 offers an option to customize its lid with varying effects and lighting. The build quality of both laptops is good, but I think that the G14 seems to be a bit more solid, probably due to the fact that it is smaller.

In a nutshell, as you can probably tell from the names, the G14 comes with a smaller 14-inch screen, while the G15 comes with a larger 15-inch screen. As a result, the G15 is physically bigger than a lot of other gaming laptops out there, but it is still relatively thin compared to a lot of other gaming laptops out in the market. It is true that the G14 is a lighter and more portable package, but the small size does come with some disadvantages as well.

On the left both laptops have the power input, HDMI 2.0b output, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port and 3.5mm audio combo jack. The larger G15 also fits in 2.5 gigabit ethernet, a second Type-C port and a Type-A port here. They both have a UHS-II MicroSD card slot on the right, and the G14 has two USB Type-A ports here and a Type-C while the G15 just has one Type-A. So, if you add up all the ports, the only difference is the smaller G14 does not have ethernet.

Display

It’s true that the G14 has a smaller 14-inch screen than the G15, but it has an aspect ratio that is taller 16:10, whereas the G15’s is a standard 16:9. Compared to the G15, the G14’s screen is brighter.

We found that the color gamut of both panels was extremely close, so there was no practical difference between them, but again, the results will vary based on the panel used.

There was a little improvement in screen response time with the G15, but realistically, both results are good compared to a lot of other gaming laptops on the market today.

Speakers, Keyboard & Touchpad

There are front-facing speakers on both laptops, and I personally thought that the G14 sounded better than the G15. Although the G15 is louder and sounds clearer, the G14 isn’t far behind and has more bass, which I prefer over the G15.

The G15’s keyboard is a bit mushier to type on than the G14’s keyboard, despite both having a single zone of RGB backlighting and 1.7mm of key travel. The G15’s touchpad is slightly bigger, but the G14’s is a little louder when pressed. However, both feel nice and accurate to use.

Gaming Performance

ASUS Zephyrus G14 vs G15 Performance

In general, the RTX 3070 Ti graphics in G15 perform better in games than the 6800S in G14. There are some games that just perform better on AMD’s Radeon graphics, like Red Dead Redemption 2. As far as this benchmark is concerned, the 6800S in the G14 was actually a little ahead of the RTX 3070 Ti in the G15. Of course, there are some games that heavily favor Nvidia graphics, such as Control, for example.

I want to remind you that both Nvidia and Radeon graphics cards can support FSR in supported games, but only Nvidia graphics cards are able to provide DLSS support.

Battery Life

Despite the fact that the G15 has a larger battery of 90Wh, I found that the G14 lasted longer in my YouTube video playback test than the G15, although both laptops have the same 6900HS CPU and both run their screens at 200 nits of brightness.

A G14 with Radeon RX 6800S graphics goes for $1900, but there is also a 6700S for $1650. Comparatively, the G15 with RTX 3060 graphics is less expensive. I tested a configuration with 3070 Ti for $2000, which is $100 more expensive than the G14 I tested. For even more money, you can also get the G15 with higher tier 3080 graphics. The configurations I’ve tested are only $100 apart, and these Zephyrus laptops are often on sale.

Which One You Should Buy?

I would say that, in most cases, the G15 was the better machine in most cases. The more physical space you have, the more things you can do with it. It’s still on the thinner side for a 15-inch gaming laptop, so definitely portable, but if you’re after ultimate portability then the G14 might be the way to go.

There was no doubt that the G15 wasn’t always going to be the winner over the G14. There were many differences between the G14 and the G14W, such as the G14 lasted longer on battery, the G14 had better performance on battery, and the keyboard was also easier to use. There is a possibility of getting the G15 for a lot cheaper if you opt for the RTX 3060 option, which is honestly still a very capable option.

As for me, if I had to choose, I’d probably go for the smaller G14 laptop, because when I use laptops I’m actually traveling, so portability is vital to me. But at the same time, I do like the extra screen space of the G15, and it isn’t that much bigger.
