DESIGN

Acer Spin 3:

This 2-in-1 convertible laptop is made with plastic material and still it’s not a lightweight laptop. This 2-in-1 laptop looks really good and it’s also nicely build as well. This 2-in-1 convertible feels like it’s empty from inside and it’s also not as strong as it should have been. But the good thing is that the creaking is minimalized. And the bottom of the laptop is also quite strong. However, the lid of this 2-in-1 convertible has a bit of flex which is not that big thing. Overall this 2-in-1 convertible has simple and clean looking design.

Dell Inspiron 15 5000:

This laptop is also a 2-in-1 convertible laptop and it has a full 360-degree flip and fold design which offers extremely versatile functionality like turning the screen in to the tablet mode, tent mode, reverse laptop mode and of course traditional laptop mode.

KEYBOARD & TOUCHPAD

Acer Spin 3:

Here, the keyboard is quite nice when working for long hours and it feels quite good as well. The key feedback is quite good and the pressure on the keys can be ignored. The keyboard is quite big, the key size is good and the arrangement of the keys is also quite good.

The touchpad here is a regular size touchpad with precision drivers which means it’s very quick and accurate. This touchpad is a little sloppy and the right clicking usually takes 2 attempts. However, the touchpad reacts properly to some gestures like three finger swipes, three finger taps to launch cortana. The palm support provides quite good space for hands to rest when working for long hours.

Dell Inspiron 15 5000:

Here, we have got backlit keyboard which looks good and the quality of the keyboard is also very nice. The backlit functionality in this laptop is very convenient as it helps us working in low lightning situations. The travel time is also decent and the keys are also quite big and the arrangements of this keys is quite good as well.

DISPLAY

Acer Spin 3:

This 2-in-1 convertible laptop has a 14-inch full HD screen and it requires two hands to open up the lid of the laptop. This display can rotate all the way up to 360-degrees. The bezels on this display are quite thin and this laptop also has touchscreen capabilites as well. The resolution is quite impressive and the clarity of the content is also very vibrant. This screen also has LED backlit capabilities which is very energy efficient and even the viewing angles are pretty good as well. It produces brightness of 235 nits which is not good for using it in the out door conditions.

This laptop has a 720p HD resolution camera with the built -in microphone. The picture quality of this camera is enought for a video calls. However, it does not support face recognition and it also does not have finger print reader as well. In short there are no security features on this laptop.

Dell Inspiron 15 5000:

This laptop has 15.6-inch full HD led backlit anti glare display touchscreen gives you hands-on control while 1920 x 1080p resolution provides pretty impressive color and clarity. It’s a wonderful looking display and the content looks good when you are watching at a straight angle. But when you are watching through an absolete angle than you will be barely able to see the content on the screen.

It has a built-in HD webcam and two microphones.

SPEAKERS

Acer Spin 3:

Here, the speakers are front-facing and they are designed in such a way that it would always face the front whether it’s a laptop mode or tablet mode. This speakers provides powerful high-definition audio and it’s loud enough to fill the mid-sized room. However, there is not much bass but they sound best when it’s in the laptop mode.

Dell Inspiron 15 5000:

Here, we have a stereo speakers by Audio Pro. The sound of this speakers is really nice and this speakers are located at the bottom corner of the laptop. This position is a little awkward and because of this position the sound is not that pleasing.

PERFORMANCE

Acer Spin 3:

Here, this 2-in-1 convertible laptop has Eight generation Intel Core i5 8265U processor. This has four cores with the base clock speed of 1.6 GHz and maximum clock speed of 3.9 GHz. This processor is rated for 15-watts and its based on 14-nanometer whiskey lake technology. This processor is used in main stream 2-in-1 convertible laptops. The performance of this processor is quite well for day-to-day usage and office task. It can also handle some heavy task like video editing quite well.

Dell Inspiron 15 5000:

This laptop has 16 GB of DDR4 RAM so that you can play any intense game and do some intense multitasking and it also gives you the ability to smoothly run your graphics, heavy PC games and video editing applications as well as numerous programs and browser tabs all at the same time. Here, on this laptop I have 512 GB SSD and while this drives typically offer less storage space than a traditional hard drive but this types of drives has no moving parts means this result in faster startup times, less noise, and reduced heat production.

BATTERY

Acer Spin 3:

This 2-in-1 convertible has a 51 Wh battery and it can provide battery life from 6 to 8 hours and if you optimize the power saving options correctly than you might be able to get 10 hours of battery life which is great for working professionals and students as well.

Dell Inspiron 15 5000:

Here we have a brief battery life which on an average lasts for 8 hours and 23 minutes which is not bad in comparison to Acer Spin 3 which also has the same battery life.

PORT SELECTION

Acer Spin 3:

This 2-in-1 features a Type A USB 2.0 port, power button, SD card slot, stylus and stylus charging slot on the left side. And on the other side of the laptop USB 3.0 Port, a HDMI port, a headphone jack and microphone jack is combined. But this laptop does not have USB-C and LAN port.

Dell Inspiron 15 5000:

This laptop has 2 USB 3.0 ports and 1 USB 2.0 port and the USB 3.0 ports are backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices. It also has HDMI output port which you can use to connect your laptop to T.V. or monitor to set up a big screen side-by-side to see a larger image. It also support SD memory cards for simple photo transfer. It also have a headphoe/microphone jack for listening to music or for watching videos.

Acer Spin 3:

The weight of this 2-in-1 convertible is 3.7 pounds and its dimensions are 12.9 x 9.4 x 0.8 inches.

Dell Inspiron 15 5000:

The weight of this convertible laptop is 4.5 pounds which is a bit heavy compared to Acer Spin 3 and the dimensions of this laptop are 10.2 x 14.9 x 0.9 inches.

WHICH ONE YOU SHOULD BUY?

Now, for me Acer Spin 3 is overall a good laptop and the performance is also really nice. The fact that it can convert in to tablet makes it a very good option to buy, if you are thinking to buy a laptop. However it does misses something like USB-C port, fingerprint reader, backlit keyboard, and the plastic body is also little chunky. However, this laptop is good option to buy. Dell Inspiron 15 5000 is sort of OK but I don’t recommend to buy this laptop as it is heavy, the speakers are not as loud as Acer Spin 3. The content doesn’t look good when watched with an obsolete angle. Even the battery is OK and you might not get the same battery life as I got.
