DETAILED REVIEW:

DESIGN

Acer Spin 3:

This laptop has got the all plastic body but it still feels good but the material is a bit slippery which is a bit of a problem and it was expected to use in the tablet mode. Here we got the the 360-degree hinges which let the screen to rotate all the way to the back.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7:

The design here isn’t anything new. The design is the same as of the Surface 6 Pro and it’s a bit heavier tablet which can convert into a laptop with the help of the rear-facing stand and cover keyboard as well. The thing that I don’t like in the Surface 7 Pro is the 0.5-inch bezel which looks really thick when compared to the iPad Pro. The kickstand here rotates all the way up to 165-degrees which is nice as it helps us to the angle of the tablet so that we can use this according to our convenience.

KEYBOARD & TOUCHPAD

Acer Spin 3:

The keyboard has got the island style backlit keyboard with white backlighting which can be turned on or off. I didn’t had any typing issues with this keyboardother than the small arrow keys. Here, the keys were a little clicky and there was a little bit of a keyboard flex while pushing down fairly hard but it wasn’t noticeable while actually typing.

The touchpad is pretty fair and handles the touchpad gestures pretty nicely. There is also a fingerprint scanner on the top left corner of the touchpad.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7:

Here we have got a Signature Type Cover which transforms the tablet into the laptop while it also works as the cover of the screen. It also available in platinum, black and cobalt blue which helps you to personalize the style according to your choice. I love typing on the Type cover key’s just beacause of the deep travel and springy feedback. I found the keys very comfortable no matter how hard I hit the keys.

The touchpad is 4-inch wide which gives a good amount of space for the fingers and clicking the touchpad gives me a satisfying feeling. There are no controls keys on the rigth side which is not a big issue for me. The keyboard here is so good that I feel that I should get this type of keyboard on all the laptops.

DISPLAY

Acer Spin 3:

The display is 14-inch with 1920 x 1080p LED touch screen with a really nice display and it has an IPS panel and with this IPS panel the viewing angels are excellent. The colors produced by the screen using the Spyder 5 Pro and my results returned 64% of sRGB which is below for average for a premium laptop. So the color accuracy is OK compared to other laptops I have tested. But personally the screen look quite nice. There is a little screen flex while moving the display but overall it’s fairly rigid just because of the hinges which are located towards the corners. The side bezels around the screen are thick enough to easily hold the laptop while in the tablet mode.

Above the display we have got the 720p webcam with a bad performance. The camera looks pretty bad and it’s quite blurry even with the decent lighting. The microphone isn’t good either.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7:

On this laptop we have got a 12-inch screen with 2736 x 1824p display which looks gorgeous and vivid whether you are browsing the internet, or watching youtube videos. If you are someone who likes to movie alot than I would definitely recommend you to buy this laptop as the display is so nice and gorgeous. Here, the screen produces somewhere around 395-nits of brightness which is way better than some of the other laptops. According to my testing the screen produced 97% sRGB but it didn’t exceeded the Surface Pro 6.

SPEAKERS

Acer Spin 3:

Here, we have the front facing dual stereo speakers under the screen which gives nice audio in all of the modes. The bass is good with almost little to no distortion and the audio is clear even at high volume its nothing but its fair enough for laptop speakers.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7:

The speakers here are “OK” but they are not too good to enjoy your favourite music or videos. Because of the overall low volume of the speakers the Surface Pro 7 completely dulled the powerful metal-pop of Issues “Tapping out”. The bass of the speakers isn’t enough to bang my head. While I was listening to my favourite music the vocal’s were mostly audible and I was hardly able to hear the bass.

PERFORMANCE

Acer Spin 3:

Here, we have 8th Gen Intel i7-8565U processor which runs at 4.6 GHz and its fast to use. There is a 16GB of DDR4 memory and for the storage there’s a 512GB SSD and there is a integrated Intel HD 620 graphics. With all these in the Acer Spin 3 I was able to open almost 50 tabs at a time and the laptop didn’t buffer at all and all the pages were loaded instantly.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7:

On this laptop, we have Intel Core i5-1035G4 which is a tenth generation processor and it has 8 GB of RAM and it’s capable of handling multitasking without any issues. I wasn’t able to notice any big buffer or lags while working throughout the day. Even when I was browsing between several tabs, watching videos and doing some other stuff I wasn’t able to notice any big lags or something like that.

BATTERY

Acer Spin 3:

Here, we have got the 60 Watt hour battery with 45-watt charging and Acer claims that this battery can lasts upto 12 hours with a single charge but according to my test the battery only lasts around 7 to 8 hours with 150 nits of brightness which is decent enough to last the whole day.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7:

Here, we have got the 43.2 Watt hour battery amd Microsoft claims that the Surface Pro 7 can lasts upto 10.5 hours with a single charge. But in my testing the battery lasts from somewhere around 7 to 8 hours with a single charge, which is pretty close, to what Microsoft claims.

PORT SELECTION

Acer Spin 3:

On the left side of the laptop we have a USB 2.0 port, an SD card slot, a stylus with the charging dock, a power button and the charging point.

On the right side wehave got the USB 3.0 port, an HDMI port, a kensington lock and an audio jack but we don’t get the USB-C port which is really disappionting.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7:

Here, we have got USB-A port, a headphone jack, a microSD card reader and a power port. Here, we also get to see a USB-C that Microsoft decided to include this time. But this USB-C port is not a thunderbolt 3 which is very disappointing.

WEIGHT & DIMENSIONS

Acer Spin 3:

This laptops weights around 3.7 pounds. The dimensions of the laptop are 12.9 inch in width, 9.4 inch in length, and 0.78 inch in height.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7:

This laptop weights 1.70 pounds which is very light weight as its a small portable laptop. The dimensions of the laptop are 12.7-inch in width, 9.1-inch in length, and 1.9-inches in height.

WHICH ONE YOU SHOULD BUY?

Well, it mostly depends on you. Which one you like the most? What are your needs? What is your budget? Both the laptops are really nice option to buy as both of the laptop have almost the same battery life, the performance is really nice, keyboards are also nice as well. So if I need to buy one of these I would definitely buy Surface 7 Pro as its very light weight, slim and easy to carry around and nice screen as well. The only drawback here is the audio quality of the speakers. But other than that I would definitly buy the Surface 7 Pro.
