Expert Reviews For Nvidia GTX 1070:
By IGN
The GTX 1070 is a clear winner at $400 or so. Its biggest contribution to the GPU world is serious VR horsepower and the ability to run games at 2560×1440 without taking out a second mortgage. If you’ve been considering upgrading both your GPU and…By PCGamer

It is absolutely clear that Nvidia’s new GeForce GTX 1070 GPU is a monster. It equals or tops the GeForce GTX 980Ti – even an overclocked one – in a variety of games and tests, and does so in a smaller package, consuming less power, and for a lot less…By TechPowerUp

A gaming card that looks cool while keeping cool and pumping out polygons like no tomorrow.By IGN
The RX 580 from Gigabyte is a fantastic bang-for-your-buck GPU. The high-end cards from the top manufacturers usually perform similarly, so buying designs usually come down to aesthetics, software, warranty, etc. Given this situation the Aorus is certainly a great GPU that is well-built, has aggressive looks with great lighting, and performs well while being whisper-quiet at all times, even under full load. Good luck finding one for MSRP though.By TechAdvisor
The Asus ROG Strix Radeon RX 580 TOP Edition 8GB is one of the most expensive Radeon RX 580 cards available, but offers excellent performance delivering similar overall frame rates to an overclocked Nvidia GTX 1060, although this will of course depend on which games you play. The board offers superb build quality and a great selection of features including programmable lighting effects and bundled overclocking software. It’s sheer size may be a problem for some smaller cases, however, and audible coil whine can occasionally spoil the experience.By TechRadar
Undoubtedly this isn’t the card we expected AMD to launch right now. The RX 580, is no Titan killer, nor does it change the GPU ecosphere in any meaningful way, however it just slips in, taking back that value crown, away from Nvidia’s GTX 1060.By Notebookcheck
Those who do not want an Nvidia GPU and are on the lookout for a good graphics card that costs no more than 300 Euros (~$344) will not be disappointed with the Asus ROG Strix Radeon RX 580. Besides the good cooling solution, the GPU also features eye-catching RGB effects.
DETAILED REVIEW:
Above we have shown the overview and depth specifications of both the graphics card. Now, we are sharing the full review of both graphics cards.
OVERVIEW
RX 580 | GTX 1070 | |
S.Proces/ C.Cores | 2304 | 1920 |
Base Clock | 1257 MHz | 1506 |
Boost Clock | 1340 MHz | 1683 |

NOTE – Things like Cuda cores, stream processors, and clock speeds are not directly comparable because both are based on different architectures. |
Both have GDDR5 memory and the same bandwidth. The MSRP of the Nvidia GTX 1070 is $500, while the Radeon RX 580 is $189 for the 8GB model. RX 580 was launched in 2017, while the GTX 1070 was launched in 2016.
As you can see the GTX 1070 is expensive and 1 year old when compared to RX 580. Now, lets see which one performs good. Most people will think that RX 580 will be a good option because it was released after GTX 1070. But the game results will leave you in the shock.
PERFORMANCE
For the testing I’m using the Gigabyte RX 580 8GB Aorus XTR and the MSI GTX 1070 Armor. Expect slightly different results with different models.
The system that I’m testing with has an Intel i5-9600K CPU at stock on all cores in an Gigabyte Z390 Auros Xtreme motherboard, along with 16GB of DDR4-3200 RAM.
AMD Graphics Card Driver Used: Adrenalin Edition 19.6.1
Nvidia Graphics Card Driver Used: GeForce Graphic driver 430.86
Warhammer
Warhammer was tested in campaign mode. In this test it’s a win for the GTX 1070, which was around 25FPS faster over the RX 580 at both resolutions.
Shadow of Tomb Raider
It’s a same story in Shadow of Tomb Raider, this time also the GTX 1070 was coming out ahead of the RX 580. In terms of average frame rate, the GTX 1070 was 23FPS faster at 1080p, and 14FPS ahead at 1440p.
PUBG
PUBG was tested using the games built in benchmark tool. The GTX 1070 was in front again in this title, achieving a 34FPS ahead at 1080p, decreasing to 19FPS improvement at 1440p.
Monster Hunter World
Monster Hunter World was tested in campaign mode. At 1080p the RX 580 was not near the average FPS from the GTX 1070, while it was 22FPS ahead. At 1440p, the GTX 1070 was 13FPS ahead.
Middle Earth: Shadow of WAR
Middle Earth was tested with the games benchmark tool, and there was far less of a difference between the two in this test. At 1080p the GTX 1070 was just 13FPS ahead, then 12FPS ahead at 1440p.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Kingdom Comes was tested with all graphical settings at maximum, and the performance with this game was the best on the GTX 1070. At 1080p, the GTX 1070 was hitting 15FPS faster. At 1440p, it was 16FPS ahead.
Forza Horizon 4
Forza Horizon 4 was tested with the game’s benchmark tool, and this was another title that favoured the GTX 1070 at both resolutions.
Far cry 5
Far cry 5 was tested using the replay feature, with the exact same replay file used for all testing. This was another win for the GTX 1070, which was 15% ahead of the RX 580 in average FPS at both resolutions.
Assassin’s Creed Origins
Assassin’s Creed Origins was also tested using the replay feature, with the same replay file again. In this title the GTX 1070 had the edge, coming out 23FPS faster than the RX 580 at 1080p, lowering slightly to a 17FPS higher at 1440p.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was tested using the built in benchmark. The GTX 1070 was ahead at both resolutions. As you can see RX 580 dosen’t win in any title.
WHICH TO BUY?
In the end, I think the GTX 1070 is expensive but the performance is way more good than RX 580. If you have a low budget and if you want a decent gaming performance then I think you should go for RX 580. Price differences will vary by region.
Personally, I would choose RX 580 because I don’t care about that extra performance in GTX 1070. I would save some bucks.
