Once you unlocked the bootloader and downloaded all the files, you can go ahead and root your Samsung Galaxy M31:
METHOD 1: ROOT M31 WITH MAGISK
- After downloading the firmware of your Samsung Galaxy M31, unzip the file and look for boot.img (This boot.img file is the stock image of your device)
- Now you have to patch the boot image with Magisk. For doing that, you have to move boot.img file to your Samsung Galaxy M31’s internal storage.
- After transferring the boot.img file, download the latest version of Magisk Manager and install it on your Samsung Galaxy M31.
- Open the Magisk Manager on your Galaxy M31 and GO TO – Install > Install > Patch Boot Image File. Here you have to select the boot.img file which you have transferred earlier. Magisk will start to patch the boot image file. After completion, the file will be saved as “magisk_patched.img” in your Downloads folder.
- Transfer that “magisk_patched.img” to your PC or laptop. And convert this .img file to .tar using 7-Zip. And your converted file will look like this – “magisk_patched.tar”
- Boot your Samsung Galaxy M31 into Download/Odin Mode. (Switch off the phone > press & hold Volume Down + Power button together for a few seconds and the download mode will open)
- Open ODIN Flash tool and connect your Samsung Galaxy M31 to PC via USB cable.
- Now load the “magisk_patched.tar” file in the AP section. Click on the BL button > select the BL file from the extracted firmware folder. Then select the CP and CSC file in the Odin tool.
- Go to “OPTIONS” in ODIN tool and turn on the “F.Reset Time”. Make sure that “Auto Reboot” and “Re-Partition” are turned off.
