INTRODUCTION:

Dell G3 15 3500

This is Dell’s G3 15-inch laptop with a great performance and it starts at just $859. This is a performance-oriented laptop.

Acer Nitro 5

The Acer Nitro 5 is a 15-inch budget gaming laptop. This performs well with some technologies like NitroSense technology and Cool-boost technology. The design and build quality are not top-notch but it is decent considering the price.

DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION:

Dell G3 15 3500

This whole laptop is made up of plastic but we can say by seeing this laptop that it is durable and it will last long. The material used here is from the good type and strong plastic material, so this can’t break easily.

In terms of a trackpad, there’s no flex in, unlike the last generation. The touchpad is precise. The keyboard on the XPS does feel a little bit more premium but the key travel with the G3 keyboard is really great. I really like the full-size keyboard, the bottom-firing speakers.

Acer Nitro 5

From the design point of view, it’s kind of a cheat that chose more budget end, you get that from the look and feel of it, and whether that doesn’t mean it isn’t a nice looking laptop. When I used it, I did find a few little niggles like the bezels on the screen are a bit chunky around the outside. I also found that the screen wobbled a little bit far as a bit too aggressive with the keyboard if I was moving it around too much and it flops down sometimes. Otherwise, it’s got a pretty nice design.

The keyboard itself is also quite nice to the red accent as a back-lighting go into it. You can turn up and down with the directional buttons and it’s pretty nice to type on. The trackpad is okay to use and those who do use this a lot may get irritating, for example, the left click doesn’t click fantastically, it wasn’t that great. Also, a full-sized Numpad is included in it. Nothing is mind-blowing in terms of our RGB backlighting but this is a kind of a basic laptop.

DISPLAY:

Dell G3 15 3500

The screen is 144 Hertz, not as bright as the Dell XPS but it still gives a decent brightness and clarity that’s what matters to gamers. You can go to 300 Hertz with the Razer Blade but that’s gonna cost you more than this one.

Acer Nitro 5

This is a 15.6-inch screen, so it’s a fairly compact size laptop but it actually is pretty nifty. To the screen itself, it is a very nice screen that delivers some pretty good experiences, a fast refresh rate, vivid colors. It’s a nice display. It was bright enough to use outside in the daytime. There is a little bit of light bleed around the very edges at the bottom that you’d notice on the darker scenes. For general use, it wasn’t really a problem. I found it was a set of us an easy screen to use, great for gaming, it looks fantastic with really rich colors and everything else and it performs really well too.

FEATURES:

Dell G3 15 3500

This is made out of plastic but only costs $859. When you compare it by spec with the Dell XPS, you’re still getting the same i5 processor 10th generation 8 GB of Ram with an upgradeable option, and also you’re getting 256 GB of NVMe storage which is so identical but $440 less than to Dell XPS. This is where you can save money if you consider only the performance rather than the design and all other features.

One of the high-end G3 cost around $1300 and it has a 144-hertz display. It has a discrete 1660 Ti mobile-optimized Nvidia RTX graphics card. Also, you can upgrade the CPU to a Core i7 with six cores and twelve threads, so the value proposition keeps adding up. This machine comes with 512 GB of NVVMe storage, they also got 16 GB of Ram.

We got the ports on the side, we got two USB 2.0 ports, a full-sized SD card slot, the headphone jack, and then we get onto the other side, we got you got your DC in, HDMI, USB 3.0 and then an Ethernet port, and a Thunderbolt port. Unlike with the Dell XPS, you need a dongle if you’re gonna connect the HDMI or Ethernet.

We will be upgrading this device. You can see, there are bottom-firing speakers. In Dell XPS, we were impressed with the audio, the audio was loud, it was clear. On a volume scale, if the Dell XPS is at 100 then the G3 probably 85.

Acer Nitro 5

Nitro 5 is an affordable gaming laptop from Acer. This laptop comes with obviously a variety of different specs but it includes a 1080p IPS panel with 120 Hertz or 144 Hertz refresh rate with 3 millisecond response time. Also, it has Intel’s latest 10th gen processors and a choice of Nvidia RTX 2060 GPU or the GTX 1650 TI or 1650 GPU options. It also has NVMe SSD drives. The basic model is with the lowest spec NVMe drive has a 256-gigabyte drive on it. I’d advise if you can stretch to it, get a better model because 256 GB will soon fill up, especially if you install anything like Red Dead Redemption or Call of Duty which is absolutely massive in terms of the storage size that you’ll soon fill that up. Also, you can upgrade because there are two potential inputs for NVMe drives on this laptop.

The outputs and inputs are also great. It has an Ethernet port, HDMI, USB-C, multiple USB connections as well see plenty of connectivity options that are a bit chunky around the edges. It wasn’t uncomfortable to use. On the right-hand side, there are an audio jack, another USB port, and the power supply.

You will note that it has cooling fans at the back and it has Acer’s cool boost technology built into the NitroSense software. It basically means it keeps cool under pressure and Asus says it’s something like 25% more efficient in terms of cooling than the previous model. I have found when gaming on it makes it a bit hot although not the hottest I’ve tried.

On the keyboard, you have the Nitro sense button as well so you can press that and open up the NitroSense Software where you can adjust the fan speed and change things like the audio as well. You also get M.2 support. So, you can get extra storage space, you’ve got enough space for all your games. It does have a webcam on the top.

I found that the speakers do well but unfortunately, they are overpowered by the fans. The fan noise is too much and it overpowers the speakers, for the most part, it’s a pretty common experience of mine on gaming laptops especially if the thinner ones. This one’s not too bad, it’s not the worst I’ve tried. Also, the keyboard didn’t get too hot which is nice. The speakers have that Waves Max technology and such in them to deliver a good sound and we’re just found it was going bad. So, it has true harmony audio settings Waves Max audio technology. This is not the loudest laptop I’ve used but with the fans turned up block the speaker’s sound more which is about around 62 decibels in real-world experience.

In the NitroSense technology, you can change the fan speed and adjust to tweak that you can also use the Cool Boost technology to reduce the levels of it and optimize that so it runs smoothly and I did find that the fans weren’t kicking in under standard use a lot. For gaming, the fans need to be on a bit faster, a bit louder to keep things running cool, and to get the best performance possible and that was where it lacked a bit.

PERFORMANCE:

Dell G3 15 3500

We ran some benchmarks for Gears 5 in ultra settings and it was clocking at or about 65 frames per second but in Forza, it gets comfortably at 72 frames per second. In this, you’re not getting two small bezels and the premium look out of it like all other high-performing laptops but from that’s what you save. But, you are getting raw performance, Dell knows what you want with this system. We have a dedicated G mode which is going to change the performance.

This is great for gaming, the frames per second were respectable or an entry-level machine but, is this laptop good for video editing? For example, the Dell XPS took around 3 minutes to export a whole 3-minute video, whereas the G3 3500 took at around 2:45 with the discrete graphics card, actually the whole 30 seconds less than the HP Spectre which is another machine that commands premium pricing.

Acer Nitro 5

It has that 120 Hertz, you can get 144 Hertz as a screen option as well and with an RTX 2060, you get ray tracing and you can get some pretty good experiences. If you a low to mid end games, you can get some really good FPS levels out of it. I actually managed to get like a 180 FPS on the game. This laptop is a pretty impressive sort of semi budget laptop.

I tested a number of different games on this. I played Assassin’s Creed and I found that did pretty well, I got some decent FPS out of it managed around 60 FPS, and the Valorant game managed to get nearly 200 FPS which was really great. I also played Far Cry New Dawn, Cuisine Royale, Human: Fall Flat. I had the ethernet cable plugged in and I used this laptop to stream on Twitch. There is no problem using the Streamlabs OBS as well. so it’s a good all-rounder and considering the price, I think the basic model starts at around 1000 dollars and then obviously goes up in price after that but that is a really good price for a model laptop with NVIDIA RTX graphics cards and also with the Intel CPU options.

If you’re going to play lower-end games things like cs: go, Valorant, and anything that’s not going to give too hard, you’re gonna get some high FPS out of this machine and you’re gonna make the most of that screen. This is only a 120 Hertz refresh rate screen but it’s still not a big problem. Something like Assassin’s Creed is a bit more running on the highest settings, I got around 45 fps but averaged out around 60 fps when I did a benchmark and it was varying up and down depending on what was happening as well. So, the overall experience is certainly a good one. This is a really enjoyable laptop to use.

BATTERY:

Dell G3 15 3500

It uses a 4 cell 51 watt-hour battery which gives around 7-8 hours battery life if you use it with a 50% brightness. If you buy the G3 3500 laptop with another option 68-watt hour battery, then it will give you a little better battery life. All in all, the battery life is really good if we compare other gaming laptops.

Acer Nitro 5

This laptop’s battery is kind of mediocre. I got about three hours out of the battery before it needed charging. This claim is got by doing things like browsing, working, surfing the web, and some basic use. However, you are paying a budget price for this laptop and you’re getting a good experience all around.

Acer Nitro 5

WHICH TO BUY?

If it’s a performance that you’re after, then the G3 3500 doesn’t disappoint. Now, if you want a premium and beautiful laptop, you might choose any other laptop. Overall, gaming or working on Nitro 5 is a good experience, especially for the price. This is not terribly disappointing as you might expect for a cheaper laptop. There are some laptops that cost 3000 to 4000 dollars that don’t deliver a satisfying experience but this stands as value for money.

Comparatively, Acer Nito 5 is a bit cheaper than the Dell G3 3500 gaming laptop. In my opinion, both are good ones to buy and the decision is in your hands which one do you want considering all the features and performance. I think the Dell G3 will better in performance even though it is a bit pricey than the Nitro 5.
