Expert Reviews For Acer Spin 3:

By laptopmag.com
The Acer Spin 3 has a great 1080p display and an affordable price tag, but it’s held back by performance problems, an uncomfortable keyboard and subpar battery life.

By cnet.com
In the ultracompetitive market of midrange convertibles, the Acer Spin 3 fails to stand out.

By techradar.com
The Acer Spin 3 is affordable and can get the job done, but only if you have a few minutes to spare. Middling performance and subpar trackpad hardware mar an otherwise decent general use, 2-in-1 laptop.

Acer’s 14-inch convertible features all the things that are necessary for office use: A powerful processor, a fast SSD and the dual-channel-enabled RAM. Moreover, it also has good battery life and an “okay” keyboard, which can be used for regular typing. Unfortunately, Acer does not offer a keyboard backlight.

Expert Reviews For Lenovo IdeaPad 330:

By laptopmag.com
The Lenovo IdeaPad 330 is an affordable 15-inch laptop with a good keyboard and sturdy chassis, but poor performance and short battery life hold it back.

By notebookcheck.net
The Lenovo IdeaPad 330-15IKB is a bit of an anachronism. Its Core i5-7200U processor and Radeon 530 GPU are both outdated, as is its TN display. Moreover, the battery is simply too small for a 15.6-inch laptop.

By windowscentral.com
Out of the box, this laptop is pretty terrible to use because of the slow HDD and low battery life. However, it’s an inexpensive way to get great performance, if you don’t mind installing an SSD and maybe a larger battery if they become available. Working on such a large screen is a joy, and it performs better than anything else at this price point once you swap the hard drive out. There are plenty of ports, but not being able to use the USB-C port for charging or display-out is what’s going to cause me to return this laptop.

Lenovo IdeaPad 330-15ICH in this configuration has a budget gaming panel. Its light doesn’t flicker, thus it is not too harmful on the eyes in a wide variety of brightness levels. In addition to that, the panel is fast and has a crisp Full HD resolution. Sadly, it is able to produce only half of the colors found on the Internet and has a very narrow field of view. Moreover, its colors are far off the standard but installing our Gaming and Web design profile greatly improves this.

DETAILED REVIEW:

DESIGN

Acer Spin 3:

This has textured plastic sort of finishing, yes this is made of plastic. But the material quality used here is pretty good. It has Acer branding at the top of the panel and it looks quite sturdy and premium and the quality of material they have used feels quite sturdy. The touch and the hinge also feels quite sturdy. The Acer laptop is really very impressive. Because of plastic material the laptop’s weight is very less.

Lenovo IdeaPad 330:

Lenovo IdeaPad 330 has a fairly compact and decent design, you can easily slide it into your backpack to take it with you to school or when travelling. It also has a very sturdy aluminum chasis and it will be there for a long period of time. It has a very minimalist design although plastic that the brushed metal look texture just feel premium but it’s highly prone to smudges both inside and out.

KEYBOARD & TOUCHPAD

Acer Spin 3:

The keyboard here is a chiclet style keyboard and the key travel is also fairly good and it feels quite sturdy and strong. It’s built quality is also quite good and it’s very spacious for the palm to rest. Typing on this keyboard is also very convenient.

The touchpad here does not have a tactile feedback but it works fine. The accuracy of the touch is quite good and on point but the way it depresses and the click that it takes kind of feels a bit flimsy. So it’s something which I don’t feel very confident about.

Lenovo IdeaPad 330:

The IdeaPad 330 has a sturdy keyboard with chiclet style keys in a subtle curved design. It offers 1.4 MM of travel which isn’t bad at all. The keys require 70 grams of actuation force which is fairly standard among laptops. However, there is no backlighting but still this keyboard is very comfortable to type on.

The touchpad has a nice smooth and responsive design. But it could be a bit larger. And you can also use multi point gestures like point to zoom and three finger swipe without any problems. This allows you to perform a variety of tasks quickly and easily. However the click noise is pretty noticeable.

DISPLAY

Acer Spin 3:

Here, the side bezels are quite slim, so you get a good and wide screen area. The upper and bottom bezels are also quite slim. It has a 14-inch LED multi touch IPS display with 1920 X 1080p resolution. So the videos, images, texts, etc. looks very clear. This is the best display you can get at this price point.

Lenovo IdeaPad 330:

Lenovo IdeaPad 330 has a 15.6-inch HD LED backlit display with a resolution of 1366 X 768p. This display has an energy-efficient extended battery life and reduced utility bills. It delivers a repectable amount of detail and it is perfect for anyone who enjoys watching movies, playing games and so much more. The 188 nits brightness rating could be easier but it’s still gives you a good visibility in day and night. You should be able to get good viewing angle without much hassle.

The panel does wobble even on minor movements and getting inside isn’t easy for upgrades with 11 screws around the whole chassis.

SPEAKERS

Acer Spin 3:

It has two front-facing speakers and the sound is quite pleasing to the ears. The position of these speakers are in the front and because of that we get nice audio experience. And the speakers are quite nice and you can hear each and every beat clearly.

Lenovo IdeaPad 330:

The speakers are right under the front edge. but the two stereo speakers have almost next to no base. So I would recommend to buy a pair of headphones if you listen to music a lot or you can also buy some external bluetooth speakers.

PERFORMANCE

Acer Spin 3:

The CPU here is “OK” means it’s not very powerful. The performance seems to be mediocre as it a gaming laptop . So mind it, it’s not powerful enought to handle gaming. The real life performance of this laptop is OK. I would recommend this laptop to someone who is looking for reliability, simplicity and good laptop you can depend on and also for someone who is looking for performance ofcourse.

Lenovo IdeaPad 330:

The 8 Gen Intel dual core i3-8130U processor in this computer runs at up to 3.4 GHz with turbo boost. It also have 8 GB of memory for smooth multitasking capabilities. You will be able to keep multiple tabs open in Chrome without experiencing any sluggish at all. This will only serve to improve your ability to remain productive in whatever you happen to be doing. It has a 1 TB hard drive and provides you with ample storage space for all of your data. It offers decently fast read and write speed for solid overall performance. It runs at 33MBPS which is not bad at all. It might not be quite as good as a solid state drive but you get plenty of storage.

This laptop offers a reasonably solid integrated intel graphics processor that can handle streaming HD video without any problems. It might not be suitable for modern gaming but you can play older or less resource heavy games very smoothly.

BATTERY

Acer Spin 3:

Acer claims that it can give up to 12 hours of battery life which not true at all. You might get a battery life from 7 to 8 hours depending upon your usage and some other factors.

Lenovo IdeaPad 330:

Here, you get approximately 6 hours of battery life before you need to plug it in to charge. This isn’t the best battery life of any laptop we have reviewed but it is still very respectable. You won’t have to deal with constantly recharging which you will be sure to appreciate when travelling. And IdeaPad also mentions quick charging which isn’t quick enough.

PORT SELECTION

Acer Spin 3:

On this left side you would find some standard full sized ports like the charging port, power button, stylus charging slot, SD card slot, and an USB 2.0 port.

On the right we have a full sized USB 3.0 port, Kensington Lock, HDMI port and an audio jack.

Lenovo IdeaPad 330:

On the left of this laptop you will see a USB 3.1 port, USB 2.0 port, HDMI output, Ethernet port and a 3.5 MM audio jack.

Now, on the right side, we have a SD card reader, the combo of headphone and microphone jack, a USB 3.1 port, duty rewriter and the Kensington Lock.

WEIGHT & DIMENSIONS

Acer Spin 3:

It measures 13 x 9.4 x 0.8 inch and it weighs around 3.7 pounds/ 1.7 Kg.

Lenovo IdeaPad 330:

It measures 14.9 X 0.9 X 10.2 inch and it weights 4.85 pounds/2.2 kg.

WHICH ONE YOU SHOULD BUY?

Well, it mostly depends on what you want and what are your needs. If you are a someone who has a low budget than I would recommend you to buy Acer Spin 3. If you are a someone who is a heavy user or a professional and want better performance and better battery life laptop than Lenovo IdeaPad 330 will suit your requirements perfectly. For me, Lenovo IdeaPad 330 suits my requirements best so I would definitely buy Lenovo IdeaPad 330.
