Design |
Dell G5:
The design of this laptop has muscular looks which is pretty oldskool. At first glance, you will not able to tell the difference between the G5 and Inspiron 7577. You might find the design boring but it looks fine to me. All edges and corners were rounded and smooth, and overall the build quality was good.
There are 2 color variants for this laptop – Black and Red. I think the red one looks more good, but all it matters to personal choice. The Dell G5 maintains the minimalist design style. There is a Dell LOGO in the middle of the Lid.
Dell G7:
In appearance, the Dell G7 uses family-style design. The entire machine is made with metal design. It is also equipped with a glossy blue brand LOGO, which will reflect cyan under different angles.
If you are going for G7 then you should buy in white color because it’s nicer than I thought. It’s not like a flat or even like glossy plastic. It’s this satin finish that looks kind of pearlescent almost. A really nice looking color.
Display |
Dell G5:
It is a 15.6-inch, 1920*1080 retina IPS screen, which supports anti-glare and can help to protect your eyesight. This is definitely good news for the little friends who are addicted to the game.
At the top of the screen, there is an HD camera, and below there is a Dell Logo. The display comes in 60Hz and 144Hz. However, non-angle viewing works well, so at least you can turn your head and tilt the screen without losing the picture.
The color gamut of this screen -:
- 64% sRGB
- 46% NTSC
Dell G7:
The 15.6-inch, 1920*1080 IPS screen of the Dell G7 is very eye-catching. It is also adopted with 3 sided narrow bezel design which looks beautiful and feels more classy.
The 720p camera is located at the top of the screen. The position is normal, but the shooting quality is average. Also, it does not support windows hello unlock.
The display comes in 2 options – 60Hz and 144Hz. I will recommend you to buy 144Hz if you are a gamer.
If you want to do content creation, then this laptop is not for you.
The color gamut of this screen -:
- 97% sRGB
- 66% NTSC
Weight and Dimensions |
The weight of the laptop is listed at 2.5kg on the Dell website. However, this will vary based on hardware customizations.
Dell G5:
My laptop weight is 2.8kg and 3.5kg with the charger.
The dimensions of the laptop are 36.4cm in width, 27,3cm in-depth, and under 2.4cm in height.
Dell G7:
My laptop weight is 2.6kg and 3.3kg with the charger.
The dimensions of the laptop are 36.4cm in width, 27.3cm in-depth, and just under 2cm in height.
Keyboard and Touchpad |
Dell G5:
You won’t find a glass touchpad or a mechanical keyboard with a multi-color backlight. You have a full keyboard and numeric keypad. The keyboard is good and maybe a bit shallow and soft, but still suitable for typing and gaming. Although I wish it had separate buttons for casual games. The trackpad performed well and didn’t let me immediately reach for the mouse.
The keyboard is very simple and modern. It is relatively easy to clean. The 1.2mm keystroke is very powerful. The style of the keyboard with red characters on a black background is really awesome. It also represents the beauty of “Red and Black”. The keyboard also supports a red backlight with 2 levels of brightness. The WASD key and touchpad have a red bezel for extra visibility.
Dell G7:
The Dell G7 uses a full-size design on the keyboard, with numeric keys added to the right. It feels average while gaming and typing. The arrow keys are not standard sizes. The keyboard supports blue backlight with 2 levels of brightness. The power key has integrated fingerprint recognition. The WASD keys are independently labeled and implemented.
The surface of the touchpad is matte and delicate. The touchpad is driven by Windows precision, which is at the same level as the medium-high level. The left and right mouse buttons are retained, and the feedback is clear, you will not feel stiff.
I/O |
Dell G5:
On the left side of the laptop, there’s an air exhaust vent up the back, USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port which is wired for both DisplayPort 1.2, and Thunderbolt 3.
On the right side, there’s a full-size SD card reader, USB 3.1 Type-A port, and air exhaust vent towards the back.
The backside, there are air exhausts on the left and right.
Underneath, there are only small vents for airflow directly above the fans.
Dell G7:

Speakers |
Dell G5:
Speakers are good but for only personal use only, you can’t fill the room with sound. They are very clear for movies and music. When you play the game, you will hear the sound of fans and they are not very loud. I will recommend that use headphones for the best gaming and movie experience.
Dell G7:
The speakers are located on the front side. The speaker quality is not that good. You have to compromise in the speakers. You should use an external speaker for movie experience and use headphones for the gaming experience.
Performance |
Dell G5:
CPU:-
I have performed the test with CPU-Z software. In the test, the Intel Core i5-8300H, multi-core processing power score was 2296 points, and the single-core processing power score was 455 points.
GPU:-
I have performed the test with GPU-Z software. Dell G5 uses the NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti graphics card (4GB GDDR5). Adopt 14nm process, GP107 400 architecture, core frequency is 1290 / 1382MHz, memory bit width is 128bit, memory frequency is up to 7G, design power consumption is 75W.
Hard Drive Test:-
We use the CystalDiskMark tool to test the drive. As a result, the reading speed is 546.6MB/s and writing speed is 205MB/s.
Dell G7:
CPU:-
The equipped Core i7-8750H brings the consumer processor of the mobile platform to 6 cores for the first time. The processor is designed with 6 cores and 12 threads, the power consumption is 45W, the main frequency is 2.2GHz, the core frequency is 4.1GHz, and the 9MB L3 cache.
GPU:-
The test was performed by GPU-Z. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 alone has 1920 stream processors, 192bit video memory bit width, 6GB GDDR5 video memory, core frequency of 960MHz, and boost frequency of 1200MHz.
Hard Drive Test:-
The Dell G7 uses a combination of SSD and HDD, which is also a very mainstream method. Users can install the system and common software on the SSD, and large-capacity files such as data, games, and videos are placed on the mechanical hard disk.
Which One You Should Buy? |
Personally I don’t think there’s enough difference between them and would just go the G5 unless you really either wanted the white option or slightly nicer overall design with the G7 or to get the i9 CPU, as that’s not an option with the G5.
Although as we saw in most cases it doesn’t really perform much better than the i7 outside of single-threaded workloads. I can see why so many people asked about the differences between the G5 and G7 as they’re very similar, hopefully, this comparison has helped you see that the differences are pretty minor.
