DESIGN
Asus ROG 5
The rog phone 5 is a high-end smartphone that seeks to provide the most advanced gaming experience possible. The back finish of this smartphone is pretty glossy, and it’s made from gorilla glass 3.
It’s available in two colors: phantom black and storm white; considering the screen size, it’s a tall device at 172.8 millimeters, as well as a thick device at 10.3 millimeters. Even though it’s narrow (77.3 millimeters) and has curved back edges, you’ll be able to handle it comfortably. It’s heavy at 238 grams which is understandable given the materials and battery size.
The pair of pressure-sensitive ultrasonic air triggers on the phone’s edges is one of the most incredible hardware features, a bonus for gamers. You also get advanced motion control support.
Because the Rog 5 isn’t waterproof, you’ll have to be careful with this expensive device.
OnePlus 9 Pro
The OnePlus 9 Pro’s design isn’t brand new or revolutionary. It looks mash-up of the OnePlus 8 Pro and the OnePlus 8T, with a glass sandwich design and curved display on the front. The camera module shifted to one side. However, it still appears to be excellent and premium.
The quality of the 9 Pro is excellent. The metal frame gave a lot of rigidity, and the metal buttons are both tactile and durable.
This phone also has IP68 water and dust resistance rating, so you won’t have to worry if you drop it in the water by accident.
DISPLAY
Asus ROG 5
The display on the Rog 5 is a 6.78-inch AMOLED with a 1080p resolution, gorilla glass victus protection, and a super-fast 144hz refresh rate.
High frame rate gaming is the most compelling reason to have a high refresh rate. The 144hz refresh rate is more than sufficient for achieving a super smooth effect. You can choose between 60hz, 90hz, 120hz, or 144hz across the whole system.
There is no punch hole or notch because the selfie camera is hidden in the top bezel. The picture is plenty sharp and quite contrasty, and colors can be super accurate depending on your color settings.
If you are a gamer, you will like the display’s fast 300hz touch sampling rate; this means you should get amazingly low touch latency and incredible responsiveness in fast-paced games.
OnePlus 9 Pro
OnePlus 9 Pro has a beautiful display. It can get quite bright, with a peak brightness of 1300 nits, and the colors are stunning. When set to QHD+, it looks incredibly crisp.
Because it’s an LTPO display, the smart 120Hz mode allows the refresh rate to be reduced when the screen is showing less demanding content and increased when the screen is showing more demanding content.
Overall I really like this display. The bezels are super thin, and you can very easily get used to the small notch on the top left.
CAMERA
Asus ROG 5
The Rog phone 5 has a 64MP primary camera, 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 5MP Macro camera.
The photographs taken with the primary camera are excellent. Pictures appear to be natural because there are so many details and colors. Photos from the ultra-wide camera are again decent but not particularly impressive, and the Macro camera is also average.
The 24MP front-facing camera is used to capture selfies. The images are clear with good detail and color.
You can record videos with the primary camera up to 8K resolution at 30FPS. Videos can be stabilized through EIS on both cameras in all modes; it does a great job in smoothing.
OnePlus 9 Pro
The most hyped part of this phone is the cameras. OnePlus has partnered with Hasselblad in the hopes of improving the cameras on their phone.
Well frankly, other than colors, I don’t have any major issues with the cameras. I especially love the wide camera on this phone. I feel it is the best wide camera on any phone that I have tested yet. And the fact that it doubles as a macro camera is just a cherry on the cake.
The 16MP selfie camera does an adequate job if the lighting is not too harsh.
I like the videos that the OnePlus 9 pro can shoot. I am a fan of the 4K 120fps mode.
SPEAKERS
Asus ROG 5
Asus understands the importance of audio in the gaming experience. The Rog 5 has a pair of identical dedicated front-facing stereo speakers. This device has some of the best sound quality we’ve ever heard on the phone; it’s incredibly rich and vibrant. Finally, the 3.5mm audio jack is back, which was ditched in Rog 3.
OnePlus 9 Pro
At the top of the screen is an earpiece that doubles as a loudspeaker and combined with a bottom firing speaker; the sound produced is strong and loud, and great for consuming music and movies in stereo. The bad part is that It does not have 3.5mm jack.
PERFORMANCE
Asus ROG 5
The Rog Phone 5 is equipped with the snapdragon 888. Along with 5g connectivity, this chipset offers flagship-grade power.
Because of great optimization and thermals, the Rog 5 can squeeze out even higher numbers than competitors with the same chip.
The Rog 5 thermal design is something really unique; they call it GameCool 5. The CPU PCB is located in the middle of the phone, directly under the cooling fan, if you have one.
OnePlus 9 Pro
It is equipped with the latest Snapdragon 888 processor and Adreno 660 GPU. 8 or 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 or 256GB of UFS 3.1 2-lane storage is available. This phone also supports 5G.
With all of this, the OnePlus 9 Pro should deliver perfect performance. It can run anything you throw at it. You will not be disappointed whether you use everyday social apps, watch videos, or play games.
The only difficulty you may face is the phone heating up; if you play many games or click photographs or movies for an extended period of time, it will become really hot.
The overall software experience is excellent on this phone. OnePlus’s Oxygen OS is one of my favorite Android Skins.
BATTERY
Asus ROG 5
The rog-5 was able to score an endurance rating of 109 hours in our battery life tests. To charge the 6000 mAh battery, it comes with a 65-watt adapter. You can charge the phone from 0 to 70 percent in half an hour, which is impressive.
OnePlus 9 Pro
I found the battery life to be very disappointing. It barely ever gave me a screen on time of over 5 hours. And I hope OnePlus could do something to squeeze slightly more usage out of the 4500mAh battery.
We do get the 65-watt warp charger in the box, which fully charges the phone in under half an hour. It also supports 50-watt wireless charging with the OnePlus wireless charger.
WHICH ONE YOU SHOULD BUY?
If you want to buy a gaming phone, the ROG 5 is a good choice. However, if you need a daily driver device, the OnePlus 9 Pro is a superior choice because it can match many of the things that the ROG Phone 5 excels at.
