INTRODUCTION:

Dell Latitude 13 7310

This is a 13-inch premium business laptop. Now, being part of a 7000 Series, it means is classified as a lightweight laptop from Dell. Now, this is the 2020 refresh model of a 7300 series as well.

Dell Latitude 13 7300

This is the older version of 7310 in the Latitude 7000 series. This laptop also has almost everything as the new one has. The design, features, performance, and everything is really good on this device. 

DESIGN:

One of the things that you’ll often find about business laptops is that they’re not very exciting and it’s kind of by design. Usually, most business laptops are in a silver aluminum finish and this has the mode with the woven carbon fiber finish. It’s a little different from what we’re used to and I do appreciate business laptops that are a little bit different. I think they might have changed the hinge mechanism on this one too because that used to be it’s got a two-stage system. The back has been completely redesigned which used to be one long hinge that connected the display screen to the base, now it’s actually at two points of contact here.

Now, the keyboard looks a little bit more rubberized, it looks definitely smoother as well too. As for the keys on the keyboard, I really don’t feel that there is actually more key travel but I definitely feel that they’ve got more tactile for your tool which I actually quite like. As for the spacing, I don’t really feel there is much space but definitely, I can feel the difference of this key’s texture it doesn’t feel like the previous one it was more hard and plastic, this is more rubberized. One of the changes I see is the fingerprint reader is now integrated back into the keyboard as a square. The labeling of the keys looks to be a lot simpler and cleaner.

As for the trackpad, it’s actually losses to buttons, it’s just one unified trackpad now and it’s got a very nice smooth glass feel finish to it. It feels like a Macbook here. It’s still mechanical because I can definitely feel the press it goes down as well too which is great to keep.

Dell Latitude 13 7300

The laptop is premium build, very high-end looking with its all-metal design. It has a military standard 810G rating making this extremely durable. Also, you can open it with one finger.

When it comes to the keyboard, I really like it, and there is really good key travel which is about 1.2 to 1.3 millimeters. I like the fact that has really good tactile feedback. I thought this was very comfortable to type on for extended periods of time. I thought the multistage backlight worked really well, lighting up really bright allowing you to get worked on in a dark room or a dimly lit environment. The precision touchpad worked really well and very responsive. Two fingers scrolling was buttery smooth, all windows 10 gestures work well. I also like the fact that has two physical mouse buttons, not something you normally see on ultraportable laptops anymore.

DISPLAY:

The screen looks just as amazing. This is a full HD version that I’ve got for review, not a quad HD version but definitely, the screen looks a lot nicer. I definitely like the matte sort of feel to it. It’s well balanced. It feels like it’s a little bit lighter as well too so that’s definitely a welcome change.

Dell Latitude 13 7300

In this, you’re looking at a 13.3 inch full HD IPS display. It has a resolution of 1920 by 1080. Now, it’s got some intense blacks, it’s got some very vibrant colors, and it also covers the color gamut very well. You’re looking at 98% sRGB 72% Adobe RGB, so if you’re a creative professional that does Lightroom, Photoshop, and does video editing, this will get the job done. With an average brightness of 255 nits, this is definitely not the brightest in the category but definitely bright enough for indoor use and outdoor use will be okay. This is not a glossy display but a matte one, so you won’t get those unnecessary reflections or unnecessary glare. This is a pretty nice display although I wish it was a tad brighter.

 It has a low-power display, a 1-watt display that means you’re going to get maximum battery life out of this. I love the fact that has some pretty thin bezels, especially on the side so that gives you a really modern look not typical of your business laptops you see out there.

FEATURES:

Dell Latitude 13 7310

They’ve upgraded the CPU from the eighth-generation Intel to the tenth generation Intel as well. It’s got a core i7 10610U, 16 GB of RAM, 512 GB of SSD, the 13.3 inches full HD display which is very similar to the 9410. Dell says that this is the world’s smallest 13-inch business laptop and they said that the 7410 is the world’s smallest 14-inch business laptop. Another reason that I say that it’s very similar to the 9000 series just because the feature set is very similar.

There is express sign-in, it detects when you sit in front of your PC and it wakes it up. There’s an IR camera for Windows Hello, so once it wakes up it recognizes that it’s you sitting in front of the PC and it logs you in. So, you don’t actually have to do anything, you just sit in front of it it wakes up and it logs you in. Also, it’ll lock the PC if you step away and that’s nice, you can set it in the Dell optimizer app where you can actually set how long after you walk away for it to go to sleep. There is a privacy guard over the camera, now that’s a tricky thing if you want to use that 180-degree angle. The other one’s called express response that optimizes performance using machine learning. In the Dell Optimizer app, you can go and prioritize up to five different apps and it learns how you use them and it will optimize performance accordingly.

Intelligent audio is another thing, there are four different settings using 3D audio and adjust for different environments. So, you can set it to a noisy room and it will enhance your voice and then it reduces the background noise, and there’s another one for a quiet room which equalizes your voice with less aggressive noise cancellation, and there’s one for multiple voices, and there’s one for a recording studio. This machine does have 4G LTE options. The fourth feature is an express charge, so it can apply different battery profiles based on how you use your PC and it gets you fast-charged.

The new welcome upgrade is the webcam is now a 1080p and it’s still got that nice privacy shutter where you can actually just give a nice little stick which will as to disable the webcam. So, it’s just good for privacy. There is no fingerprint scanner.

We have the headphone combo jack and then have a USB 3.1 gen2 as well and then the wedge lock slot and on the back, we don’t have any ports around the back and then we look on the left-hand side, this is where all the major changes seem to happen. We have HDMI 2.0 that has been upgraded from 1.4 to 2.0, so that’s good and you will probably see we used to have the AC barrel style for connecting the power, there are two Thunderbolt ports and the first one is for power delivery where you actually plugin for to actually charge a laptop there and then we have the micro SD card reader.

The battery of it is a lot more rectangular rather than in the previous model and weight-wise, there’s a little bit lighter as well too which is quite nice. This is a 65-watt power adapter which is fantastic, so it’s hasn’t really changed. This is a USB-C type of charger.

Dell Latitude 13 7300

This has a 13.3-inch low powered Full HD display with a non-touch display 1920 by 1080. It’s powered by the eighth-generation Intel Core i7 8665U with vPro that’s the Intel Whiskey Lake processor, it’s also a quad-core processor. The graphics are the Intel UHD graphic 620. It’s got 16 gigabytes of DDR4 Ram and it’s also got 512 gigabytes of PCIe NVMe SSD storage. There is an upgraded battery option, it’s a 4 cell 60-watt hour battery. It has a starting weight of 2.75 pounds or 1.25 kilograms. It has a starting price of around $1300.

There are a few display options, now the entry-level display option is the 720p option, it’s low resolution. There is a touch option that comes with the infrared camera which is Windows Hello compatible. This unit is a non-touch super low power display that is not Windows Hello compatible and there is not an infrared camera. There is a switch to turn off your camera, so it gives you more privacy more security but it doesn’t turn off your microphone. So far I’m really impressed with it which is 720p 30 frames per second which is good for skype and video conferences. There is a fingerprint scanner that is Windows Hello compatible.

When it comes to the audio, I didn’t have high expectations because Dell in the past with their business laptops didn’t have the best audio. This actually surprised me despite having bottom facing speakers, they actually sounded pretty good and got pretty loud and there was a hint of bass.

When it comes to ports, it has some pretty good port selections. On the right side is a 3.5-millimeter audio jack, a micro SD card slot, and below that would be your optional LTE SIM tray, a USB a 3.1, and finally, a noble port if you want to lock it down. To the left side is your power port, a Thunderbolt 3 port, an HDMI 1.4, a USB-A 3.1, and if you choose to get an optional smart card reader it would go up next to that.

Dell makes it really easy for you to access the inside of this laptop. The RAM is socketed in, you will be able to upgrade that as is the case with the SSD. If you do opt to get the optional LTE, and while we’re inside there is a 60 watt-hour battery that’s the upgraded battery option.

PERFORMANCE:

It’s a core i7 10610U, this is a quad-core processor from the comet lake and its vPro. So, it’s 15 watt which is all the most used series processors and there’s a Hexa core variant as well that’s the 10710U and then there’s the vPro 10810U. It has UHD graphics instead of Iris plus and that’s commonly pretty standard for business laptops. There is no ice lake vPro, so you’re not going to see any 10-nanometer business laptops and this come lake is 14 nanometers. you will get a decent performance as for the business laptop, it can’t give you like high-end laptops which have an H series processor but this will be enough for office works and all.

On the bottom, there’s actually more extra vents. Between the keyboard and display where the vents are able to free-flowing a lot better than previously within that whole hinge system. So, you’ve actually got some gap which is quite nice. This will be better in thermals.

Dell Latitude 13 7300

When it comes to performance, I was really impressed. The Geekbench for both the single-core and multi-core scores very good when you compare to some of its competition. As far as what you can do with this is obviously productivity work will be first and foremost with this Microsoft Office, web browsing, doing email, and stuff like that, and great for consuming media. When it comes to gaming, of course, this is not a gaming laptop but you can play some older games if you turn down some of the settings and some of the newer titles and AAA titles won’t run very well unless you do opt to get an external GPU because this does have a Thunderbolt 3 port that might be an option.

When it comes to the thermals, I think Dell did a really good job. It didn’t get overly hot nothing uncomfortable, you will notice the fan kick in under heavy load but nothing too loud and distracting. I didn’t think the thermal throttling was an issue, especially when you’re doing everyday tasks. If you do put it under maximum heavy load, it will start the thermal throttle like any thin and light laptop.

BATTERY:

Dell Latitude 13 7310

In the box, you will get a 65-watt charger. The battery life you can get in this laptop is about 10 hours easily in light to moderate usage. If you use the laptop for some hard-core works, then you will get about less than this assumption.

Dell Latitude 13 7300

This has an upgraded battery option and it’s a 60 watt-hour battery with four-cell. It did about 16 hours on a continuous web surfing test. They do also offer a three cell 42-watt hour battery expect about eight to nine hours at least on that one. On the rare occasion where you find yourself needing to a plugin, there is a 90-watt power adapter that supports Express charge which will give you 80% in just one hour.

WHICH TO BUY?

The new Dell Latitude 7310 has a number of changes and Dell has actually done is refine this laptop even more than what was previously like even better laptop and I think it’s worth its upgrade. The Latitude 7310 is a great laptop to buy for business purposes as its design and performance are really good.

In my opinion, it’s always to choose the latest one, but if you want a laptop for regular works and you don’t worry about the latest processor and all, then the Latitude 7300 will be better to buy and also you’ll save some money by buying this one. If you want the latest-gen processor for better performance and improvement in thermal, then the latest Latitude 7310 will be the best one.
